Congratulations on your engagement and thank you for considering the Dunhu Ramambo Lodges as your preferred wedding venue. We know how important a day it is for you and we look forward to working with you to make your special day as perfect as you’d always dreamed it would be.

We can offer three different venues — every one unique in its own way. Each venue can be tailored to your exact needs and wishes.

  • Pamuzinda
  • Chengeta
  • Luxury House Boat(s) on Lake Kariba

The two lodges are conveniently located just 72 km and 82 km from Harare along the Bulawayo Road and are home to a large variety of free roaming game and over 300 bird species — not to mention three tame elephants that ensure you amazing wedding pictures!

Dunhu Ramambo has the largest privately owned and operated house boat fleet on Lake Kariba, which can be used for both wedding ceremonies and dinners.

Built in 2014 our new wedding venue overlooking the river, can accommodate up to 200 guests. We can offer several memorable spots for the actual wedding ceremony:

Ceremony venues

Main Lodge

Wedding ceremonies can be held at the stylish dining area or on the magnificent decks overlooking the river, while the pool bar and entertainment area are ideal locations for canapés at sunset.

River Front

Ceremonies are often held on the deck overlooking the river, but can also be held on the small island in the river, while guests line up by the river decks and shore line.

The garden, surrounded by indigenous flora, has a large lawn area that can accommodate a marquee. This venue is especially suitable for larger wedding ceremonies.

Say “I do” to one another at the Dam in the game park, where animals roam freely. This venue is mostly suitable for smaller groups and can be accessed by car, in our vintage game drive vehicle, on horseback or elephant.

The exclusive Royal Lodge has two bedrooms with bathrooms en-suite. Chengeta has several options for your ceremony and reception and is suited for larger weddings with up to 450 guests. There are a number of locations for your wedding ceremony, each one unique and romantic.

Ceremony venues

Majestic Marquee

Two huge Himalayan marquees and a large thatched function area lies hidden on a huge stone platform on the outskirts of the main Chengeta Lodge, surrounded by beautiful natural bush.

The gardens are the ideal spot for a romantic wedding ceremony, incorporating beautiful water features and luscious backdrops that make the perfect scene for your wedding photos.

Trophy Lounge

The thatched trophy lounge with its huge stone fireplace and backdrop to the lodge gardens sets the scene for an intimate and elegant wedding.

Giant Fig Tree

In a stunning and tranquil setting, this giant fig tree is a landmark on the open plain where the game roams freely. Late afternoon is a particularly spectacular time, as the sun sets below the horizon.

Ayres Rock

Ayres Rock is a large natural rocky outcrop overlooking the bush, surrounded by tree-covered hills in the distance. A very romantic spot to exchange vows.

Chimbo River Bed

Chimbo River features large flat granite rocks between sandy river beds lined with riverine forest, which sets the stage for both a stunning ceremony and photo-shoot.

God's Little Bush Chapel

Not far from the Chimbo River, lies God’s Little Bush Chapel – a gentle slope of rounded rocks that surrounds a natural aisle, leading to a summer-time lily pond.

16 rooms, all en-suite and a newly built family unit accommodating 5.

  • Two swimming pools and children’s splash pool, sauna, pool bar and main bar area.
  • Two-tiered dining rooms with view over the pools and gardens.
  • Community lounge area and TV room.

Umbozha Houseboats

If you are considering a waterborne wedding with up to 140 guests (or a relaxing, post-wedding get-away) on a luxury house boat on Lake Kariba – we will be more than happy to organise this for you, using either one or a combination of our three boats. The boats can be used alone or in combination with any of the hotels in Kariba or lodges in the Matusadona National Park.

Travel and Accommodation

Transfers to and from Kariba for all guests can be arranged by Dunhu Ramambo. Should a wedding require more capacity than the 140 passengers our fleet can carry, any number of additional boats can be organised.

Ceremony and Reception

The houseboats Umbozha, Karabezi and Shikra have large upper deck areas that work well for ceremonies and receptions. To assemble the guests, the boats can be moored alongside each other to create a great atmosphere, where guests can travel between the boats by either gang planks, tender boats or along the shore.

Catering can either be arranged by Dunho Ramambo’s acclaimed chefs or by outside caterers. If you are using a combination of boats, lodges or hotels in Kariba, you can also have the catering arranged by the local lodge or hotel. (Due to the nature of the function and facilities on-board a boat, we suggest you consider buffet style meals.)

*Bookings for large weddings requiring a combination of boats and/or lodges should be booked well in advance to ensure availability.

Arriving in Style

To make your entrance truly memorable, we offer a number of ways for you and your bride’s (or grooms) team to arrive:

  • Our vintage game drive vehicles provide that genuine “Out of Africa” feeling.
  • Arrive on a tractor and trailer with your bridesmaids — or send in the groom and his men “Farm ‘n’ Country” style.
  • Trot, gallop or walk (depending on your riding skills and enthusiasm) in on horseback from across the plains.
  • Be paddled to the altar in a canoe by one of our guides in traditional African dress (or dressed to suit your colour scheme).
  • Our talented school choir is more than happy to lead the way — a very emotional start to a beautiful occasion.

(There is no charge for any of the above, except for a donation to our Chengeta Primary School, should you wish to use the choir.)

We are more than happy to welcome children, both at the lodges and at the ceremony and reception. Children aged 3 to 12 can be given a special child’s meal and can play or watch TV in our TV lounge, supervised by responsible child minders.

Please bring any games or toys that you may feel are necessary to keep them entertained during your stay.

Catering and Bar Service

Lunch, dinner or breakfast — our experienced chefs will ensure the most delicious and memorable meals. Specialised in bringing you an African culinary experience with tender impala, warthog or wildebeest — all from the park — we provide you and your guests with an unforgettable “Boma” atmosphere. A menu for wines, champagnes and other drinks can be tailor made to suit your taste and menu. Naturally, we will work closely with you to accommodate your individual taste and requirements.

For the bar service, we suggest one of the following options to manage the account effectively:

Cash bar: Guests pay for their own drinks using a ticket system. Tickets are sold in books from the lodge reception and at the bar.

Pre-paid bar: You allocate an amount for drinks and the tickets will be distributed amongst the guest tables. When that allocation is finished, guests can purchase their own tickets from the bar.

Provide your own drinks: If you would rather provide your own drinks, we charge a flat corkage fee per person. If you only provide your own wine and champagne, the corkage fee is less.

Should you decide to provide your own drinks, they need to be at the venue no later than 24 hours before the wedding in order to be sufficiently chilled.

*Please be advised that our staff will not serve alcohol to anyone under the age of 18.

We supply the following for up to 200 guests. Price is included in the venue hire cost:

  • Round tables for 8-10 guests
